Course Offerings
  • World Geography (Grade 9)
    A general study of world physical and cultural geography.  Emphasis will include the development of geography skills with a focus on the study of world regions and the interdependence of these regions.
  • World Geography-Honors (Grade 9)
    A complete and in-depth study of world physical and cultural geography.  Emphasis will include the development of geography skills with a focus on the study of world regions and the interdependence of these regions.
  • Civics/Free Enterprise (Grade 10)
    Civics is a 1/2 credit course that is taught in nine weeks.  It involves the study of our national heritage, the three levels of government and the three branches of government.  It also involves a study of local, national and international socio-economic problems.
    Free Enterprise is a 1/2 credit course that is taught in nine weeks.  It involves the application of basic economics.  i.e. consumerism, types of business organizations, role of labor in business, role of government in business, banking, international trade, and the comparison of types of economics systems.
  • Civics/Free Enterprise-Honors (Grade 10)
    Civics-CP is a 1/2 credit course that is taught in nine weeks.  It involves the study of the organization and operation of the national, state, and local governments of the USA.  The course is designed to help the student understand their role as a U.S. citizen.  Current events will followed as relevant to the course material involving government and politics. 
    Free Enterprise-CP is a 1/2 credit course that is taught in nine weeks.  It is designed to give high school students an introduction to basic economics.  Its focus is on the American free enterprise system of capitalism.  It will provide a foundation for the development of skills needed to understand economic principles as well as help students to understand the everyday economic world.
  • American History (Grade 11)
    This course involves a survey of our Nation's history, which reviews events to the end of Reconstruction, and stresses the Westward Movement, American involvement in World War I, World War II, and other foreign entanglements to the present.  The course will focus on the social, political, cultural, and economic developments which are an integral part of our nation's history.  Students will be required to read two novels as part of the requirements for completing this course.
  • American History-CP (Grade 11)
    This course is designed to prepare students for college history courses.  Students will be given the opportunity to analyze and explore the basic course content through class discussions, group activities, cooperative learning exercises and individual assignments which encourages creativity and sharing of ideas and focus on higher level thinking skills.  It involves an in-depth survey of our Nation's history, reviewing events to the end of Reconstruction, America's involvement in World War I, World War II, and other wars to the present.  The course will focus on the social, political, cultural and economic developments which are an integral part of our nation's history.  (NOTE:  Students will be required to write a research paper and read two novels for this course.)
  • World History (Grades 9-12)
    This course involves the understanding of history of the world and is essential to the understanding of problems and issues in our day.  The challenge to the student is to be informed of the past events which have led up to the conditions of the world today.  This course is a very good course to prepare college-bound students to take college level world civilization courses.
  • Sociology
    This course is recommended for juniors and senior level students.  The course involves the study of human society and social behavior with emphasis placed on group behavior rather than individual behavior.
  • Psychology
    This course is recommended for juniors and seniors only.  It is designed to introduce the student to the social science of human behavior.  Emphasis is placed on individual reading plus independent/small group experiments.  In learning about human behavior, the student's ultimate goal should be to understand and evaluate himself/herself.
